Eat to Live – Week 9

All I can say is “whew”. I thought this week would be the first one where I had to post a net gain, and I am up almost a pound over my weight earlier in the week. However, I expect my weight to fluctuate so I’m focusing on tracking my progress week over week versus day over day. I am happy that I could post a loss and not a gain this week.

So, what happened? First, we had class this week so I ended up eating out for lunch instead of bringing my own. While I focused on eating healthy (mainly salads and veggies) this was compounded with a Wednesday night trip to the sushi bar where a client took us out for dinner.

When Andrea and I eat sushi, I get a sashimi plate and she gets her sushi plate and it all gets eaten. The most unhealthy part of the meal is the miso soup (which is salty) or perhaps the salad (with the ginger dressing) but there is little to no rice.

This time, the client ordered a large number of rolls, and in addition to an already large meal I had several pieces of sushi. I love it so much I can’t see it go to waste, and there was too much to finish. I did show restraint (David took most of it home and we still left some on the plate), but not enough, and yesterday morning I was at 193.8.

On Thursday I was able to eat better, and since I wasn’t teaching I took my usual 2 mile walk, and that made the difference.

I am writing this from the RDU airport on my way to San Francisco. While I’ll be “on the road,” San Francisco is both a walking town and a healthy food town so my hope is that I come back lighter than when I left.
