Every year Andrea’s department gets a small amount of money for “employee appreciation”. It’s not much, so they have to be pretty creative on how to spend it. One year they went bowling, and this year they decided to go to the lake.

There are a number of large lakes in the area, and Shane, one of Andrea’s coworkers, has a boat. He suggested they all go to Falls Lake, where there is a beach and a picnic area. Spouses were invited, too. So last Friday we all headed up for a day out.

It was fun. The weather was nice and there was still water in the lake (it looks like we are headed for another bad drought year). The place was empty on a Friday afternoon.

Now, when it comes to water, Andrea is a like a dolphin in the ocean. No matter where we go – the Gulf, Hawaii, or Falls Lake, she is always in her element. She was also one of the few people to manage to get up on skis.

I, on the other hand, am more like a dolphin on the front lawn. I pretty much just flop around and wait for Greenpeace to come and rescue me. When I tried to ski, I pretty much just found a way to inject water at high speed up my nose. Seriously, I know what fish smell now. I think they managed one picture with my head above water.

But all in all it was a fun day. Don’t think I’ll be trying to ski again any time soon, though.
