Extra! Extra! Read all about it.

Today I played with RSS, which I have been told means “Really Simple Syndication”.

Basically, any website or other internet resource that gets updated frequently, or in my case not very frequently, can create an “RSS feed”. Using an RSS capable reader, you can then subscribe to that feed. When the resource gets updated, you get a little notice. It’s usually a summary and a link to the URL that has the full article.

If you want to try it with this ‘blog, first get an RSS reader. I use on my Mac NetNewsWire lite (the free version).

Then you’ll need to launch your RSS reader and “subscribe” to the following:

/index.rdf

If you also want a feed of any comments that get posted (currently a total of 3), subscribe to:

/comments.rdf

It’s fun. I use it to read ‘blogs of friends of mine, as well as other RSS-capable newsfeeds like those from the BBC.
