My friend Kathy turns 40 today. Considering that she must have been about 18 when I first met her, that would make 22 years of friendship. We’ve seen each other get married, buy houses (and in her case add a complete story to hers) and I’ve seen her kids grow up in weird, strobe-like spurts, as I only get to see them in person once every few years.
Her husband TJ and I share a birthday, but he’s a year older than me. For a month I can claim to be only a year older than Kathy.
She is deeply into Middle Eastern Dance and is a member of the Middle Eastern Dance Guild of Eugene (Oregon). Her stage name is Sabine, and there is finally a place on the web to see some of her work. I’ve seen the sword dance in person and it is spectacular.
If you look through her pictures you can see the elaborate costumes and jewelry she’s collected over the years. I can’t remember if a large closet was in the plans for the extra floor, as it was being finished the last time I was in Eugene, but it’s probably needed. She and TJ carry the swords in a shotgun case.
So if you’re reading this Kate, have a great 40th and hope to see you soon.
