I’ve been very slow to pick up on this whole “short message” (SMS) or “texting” thing. I prefer e-mail or making a phone call.
However, one of my friends is the CTO of Sony Ericcson. I just found out that they are closing the RTP facility. I wanted to express my condolences, but I know he doesn’t do e-mail (a four week turnaround time from him is considered speedy) and I didn’t want to call in case he was in a meeting or out of the country, so I decided to send a text message.
A few minutes later, I got a message back saying “Who is this?”. Since I never text I was thinking he didn’t recognize the number, so I replied that it was me. Shortly afterward, the phone rang.
Turns out that I had the wrong number for my friend and instead was bothering a young lady in Montana. Grrrr. I apologized profusely. She explained that she had been in RTP for awhile but had recently moved. I hung up the call, deleted the number and figured that was the end of it.
I was wrong.
Well, at least I have a cute voice.
