A few weeks ago, Andrea went bowling with folks from her office as part of a team-building exercise. She enjoyed it, so we went again that weekend. It was the first time I had been in a bowling alley since New Year’s Day 1984 (yes, it’s weird to remember that date but I spent New Year’s with a friend and they always went bowling on New Year’s Day).
It turns out that Andrea’s mom also bowls, so when she came to visit this weekend we headed off to Mardi Gras Bowling Center to try our luck.
Outside of the birthday party going on for some kids at the far end of the alley, it wasn’t too crowded. We got Lane 10 and Andrea and I definitely showed off our relative newness to the sport, while Leona seemed to get into it a little earlier.
Leona use to bowl a lot, although to be fair it’s been awhile since she bowled regularly. And I was pretty supportive, until she started cheering when I missed my spares.
Then it was on. (grin)
On the third game I started to figure this whole thing out a little bit better, and I scored a 154 (I missed 6 total pins – 4 in the next to last frame), by far my best game ever. Now all I need are one of those funky shirts and some new shoes …
