Ben and Cynthia came over to visit yesterday evening. We live out in the middle of nowhere, so the only time we get to see people is if the make the trek out to the farm.
I also enjoy cooking, so it’s fun to have people over and to make a more elaborate meal than usual (we had lamb).
I’ve known Ben for almost three years now, and I am a better man for it (although I am not sure it works the other way). I’m also glad that Cynthia came into his life (they met on Orkut, although they don’t go there anymore). He now leaves the house and goes to concerts and things, like our farm.
It also seems that I bring up electronica from Ben’s past. At Blast we have some old video games, including one called “Off Road” which is a pickup truck racing game that I had never heard of but Ben was expert at it (I have yet to find anything computer related that Ben is not an expert).
So I wanted to show off my old Mac Plus, and the most advanced game on it is the original Tetris. Turns out Ben is great at that, as well. If it weren’t for time constraints, he’d probably have played until he set the high score.
It did bother me that the Plus seemed a little sluggish. It should have been faster (it has 4 MB of RAM after all) so today I built a System 6 startup disk.
I had to run System 7 to get networking to work, so that’s what’s installed on the hard drive, but it is slooooow. Since System 6 fits easily on a floppy, I found out that I can run things like Tetris with little slowdown.
