We finally got some much needed rain over the weekend. Andrea kept teasing me since every time we stopped the car I was looking up the website to see how much had fallen.
This is what a rainy day should look like:
Some alert reader might ask what we were doing in the car in the rain. We were off on a 4.5 hour ride to pick up a new dog.
This year has not been a good one for pets. We lost both Schipperke’s earlier in the summer, and on Thursday we had to put down our cat Diamond. He was 16 and Andrea has been with him longer than me, so it was harder than usual to say goodbye.
But she had found a Dobi-mix at a shelter in Waynesville, NC, so we headed out on the ~11 hour round trip Friday morning. The dog is about 3-4 months old and had been found wandering along the road. This was a kill shelter (the animals they can’t place are euthanized) so we were glad to rescue her from there.
We had named our other Dobi-mix after the Norse-goddess Freya and due to the driving rain we experienced picking her up we wanted to name the puppy after a rain goddess (note: I’m not complaining about the rain). Unfortunately, the Norse goddess of rain is Frigga and we just didn’t care for that name. Luckily Godchecker came to the rescue and we settled on the Voodou rain goddess Maya.
Ain’t she cute?
