Okay, since no one really reads these web pages anyway, I should be able to do pretty much any type of silly thing I want, right?
Well, starting today, whenever I travel on business I plan to share the adventure with you.
Today’s trip was to New York City, and I got to stay in the lovely Holiday Inn, Newark Airport, North, Room 144.
What was kinda cool was that since I am a Holiday Inn “Priority Club” member, I got a little goodie bag with a bottle of water, a Snickers bar, some pretzels, some trail mix and a big cookie.
But I wasn’t there just for the sights and sounds of the Newark Holiday Inn, nosiree. I was also there to eat. There is an area of Newark called the Ironbound District that is home to a pretty good restaurant called the Spain. I had not had much authentic Spanish food before, but I must say it was pretty good here. I started off with Sopa de Ajo or garlic soup, and for the main course I got Camerones a Parilla or grilled prawns. These suckers were huge, served whole, about seven inches long each (and there were six). The sauce was similar to a mild Buffalo Chicken Wing sauce – butter, white wine, brandy and hot sauce. It was a very good meal.
The next day I actually made it to New York. We started out by getting on the PATH train at Penn Station.
The train stops at the World Trade Center, in a truly enormous underground transit mall. Outside I got my first up close look at one of the towers.
We also got lost, my companion having forgotten the address of where we were supposed to go, so I got to wander around a bit. I found a cool old church called the Trinity church …
… and got to see the heart of finance in North America.
But all good things must come to an end, and I ended up back at the Newark airport. One final note: with all of the airline mergers going on, this plane is probably the wave of the future. It has the logos for six airlines: SAS, Lufthansa, United, Varig, Air Canada, and Thai.
