As much as I like change, I also seem to be comfortable with routine. One routine we’ve kept up for almost half a year is “‘que Friday”.

Every Friday we head to Allen and Sons Barbeque on 15-501.

We’ve been going so long that Brandy, the one waitress, knows our orders by heart. The best value is the extra-large barbeque plate, which comes with slaw, french fries and the best hushpuppies I’ve ever had.

It is way too much food to eat at one sitting, so I often take some home with me, although on two occasions I was able to finish it all.

The core ‘que crowd is David, Matt, and myself. It used to include Doug Phelps, until he left Blast and got a job too far away to come for lunch. Matt was on vacation today, but Donnie and Michelle were able to join us.

If you don’t like North Carolina barbeque, then maybe A&S isn’t for you. But for those of us who do like it, it’s a little slice of heaven … in a to-go box.
