Well, jet lag can be a bitch. So can exhaustion. I woke up at 4:20 am and promptly went back to sleep until 11 am local time.

Ahhhhh.

We did manage to get up, get dressed and find our way into Rome on the Metro. We just wandered around, past the Trevi Fountain and over to the Pantheon.

Then we got lost looking for a particular shoe store in the guide book, ate some gelato, and moseyed down to the Palatine and the Colosseum. This was just a day to get the lay of the land, so we haven’t really spent any time at these places (well, except for the Pantheon), and we’ll be revisiting them later in the week.

So far the only hard thing about Rome has been finding a bathroom. Well, that and learning not to get on an express train when you only want to go two stops.

Tomorrow we’re off to the Vatican.
