In something like 36 out of 41 years we’ve had snow and/or ice within a week of my birthday. Out of the five years that it didn’t happen, most of those have been recently. We had no winter precipitation at all last year, for example. Since it was over 70F on my birthday, I didn’t expect it to happen this year.

I was wrong. We got a dusting of snow today which was enough to cause a couple hundred wrecks on the highway, so I stayed home. Working from dialup sucked, but I did manage to get some stuff done and it was fun to watch the snow slowly melt over the course of the day.
