New Home Entertainment Center
Andrea and I watch a lot of movies, mainly on DVD, and I’d like to view them on something better than our 27-inch Sony CRT. However, there are a lot of hurdles to this. First, our home entertainment center will not support a TV larger than the one we have. It’s a nice piece of furniture that would be hard to replace. Second, we haven’t spent any money on it since 1998, so we’re a couple generations back on what we need as far as an A/V Receiver, speakers, etc. to support a new TV. Finally, I’m not sure which technology is best: DLP, LCD or Plasma, although at the time I’m leaning toward LCD. Everyone seems to be waiting on SED TVs, but they probably won’t be affordable until 2010 or so.
In the mean time, I thought I put out my choice for a new A/V Receiver:
This is the bottom of the line Pioneer Elite model, but it has a great reputation, an amazing price point (street prices are less than US$500) and all the features I should need in the foreseeable future.
Guitar Tuner
I may try to take up guitar again for 2007, so I would like an electronic tuner of some sort. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive. Something along the lines of the Quik Tune.
I want this particular media because it has an extremely long shelf life and can be used for archival storage. Other brands will not work.
